"No Ijaw man worth his salt will allow himself to be used by Wike, a man bitter with his own life, to destroy the Ijaw Nation"
~ Barr. G. P. Afoegba (1st October,2024)
Dear people of Nigeria, you would observed in recent times the constant verbal assault on the office and person of Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara. As a Rivers man who keeps record, I am here to inform you all to ignore those branding the governor as ingrate. I would leave these to your thought.
1. Upon Assumption of Office on the 29th May 2023, Minister Wike and Former Governor sent the list of his commissioners who were all his boys to the current Governor for adoption. The governor accepted it and appointed 14 Commissioners, all from Mr. Wike. Minister Wike gave him his Chief of staff. As personal as Chief of Staff, yet Governor Fubara endured.
2. On the 8th of July, The then Assembly passed a supplementary Budget of extra 200B and sent to the Governor , he signed it without quarrel. On that day, the visibly joyful Mr. Chike Amaehule thanked the Governor, remarking that he was impressed with his performances.
3. On the 17th of July, Minister Wike flagged off the Port Harcourt Ring road project and we all watched how he sang the praises of his successor, boasting that with the Ring Road, his second term is guaranteed, there was no quarrel. (Please see Business Day of 8 July, 2022.
4. Minister Wike handed over all his Former Security details and Police Orderly to Gov Fubara, he accepted it, despite possing great risk to his safety
There was no quarrel.
5. The interferences was total and absolute, so much so that, the only privacy the Governor could have was in matters of his naturally permissible Private moments at home
6. At some point, when it appears that the insults was too much, Governor Fubara threatened to resign. For two weeks Rivers Elders pleaded with him not to resign in order not to embarrass the State.
7. When Governor Fubara started asking rational questions as his conscience could no longer stomach what was happening, Minister Wike Started plotting the Impeachment of the Governor. It took Hon. Edison Ehie's courage to foil the plans after he leaked the secret eve of the D-Day.
8. Rivers people got to followup and were determined to stand by the Governor. This is just the summary of What played out.
When you see or hear them call the Governor ingrate, these are the facts, and the only reason is because, just like Big brother in George Orwell's book '1984" The people refused the Big brother from choking His Excellency, Amaopusenibo Siminalayi Joseph Fubara to depression.
9. So, you see these our Brothers under Rivers Ijaw People's Congress (RIPCO), they are former PAs, SAs, Commissioners, Former LGA Chairmen that served under the Honorable Minister of FCT, and few in APC hoping that the minister will one day secure FG appointments for them.
Nothing is real and nothing is genuine.
