BACKGROUND HISTORY:
The Kaiama Declaration was signed by Dr. Felix Tuodolo and Elder T.K Ogoriba representing the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) on December 11, 1998. This declaration asserts the Ijaw people's right to self-determination and control over their natural resources in the Niger Delta region by all means possible.
Other notable signatories include individuals from the following organizations:

4.) Movement for the Survival of the Ijaw Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND)

9.) Ijaw Council for Human Rights (ICHR)

These individuals and organizations represented over 500 communities from the 40 clans, making up the Ijaw nation. By the declaration, the Ijaw Nation asserts the people's right to self-determination and control over their natural resources, used in building and sustaining Nigeria over the years.
