DON'T WIKENIZE POLITICS: AGAIN, RIVERS LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTION RESULTS OFFER VALUABLE LESSONS

The Rivers State local government election conducted yesterday has yielded surprising results, with the Action Peoples Party (APP) emerging victorious in 22 out of 23 local government areas. This outcome is a significant blow to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which had been embroiled in an internal conflict between Governor Sim Fubara and former Governor Nyesom Wike.
The PDP's indecisiveness or failure to support Gov.Fubara or bring the two warring parties to the table of reconciliation has led to this stunning defeat. By allowing Wike to exert excessive control over the party, the PDP has effectively alienated Fubara and his supporters. In retaliation, Fubara instructed local government chairmanship candidates to vote for the APP, ultimately contributing to the party's sweeping victory.
This development raises questions about the PDP's internal dynamics and its ability to manage conflicts effectively. The party's inability to stand up for the truth and prevent Wike from dominating the party structure in the state has backfired spectacularly.
The APP's victory is a significant turning point in Rivers State politics, and it remains to be seen how the PDP will recover from this setback. One thing is certain, however: the PDP must reassess its internal dynamics and develop a more inclusive approach to prevent similar defeats in the future.
This outcome serves as a valuable lesson for Nigerians: turn out to vote massively, as high voter turnout makes it harder for electoral fraud to occur; choose competence over mediocrity; elect leaders who have the skills and expertise to drive progress; support candidates who demonstrate honesty, transparency, and accountability.
To our politicians, let me say, there is a place in politics called Excess Power, and it is not a safe place. He who gets to that height still maintaining the common touch and exuding statesmanship will have his honour always fresh and raw.
